If you’re planning to sell single items on your site and would like to be able to process your customers’ payments via PayPal, installing PayPal buttons on your site is the solution.
Notice that the emphasis is on SINGLE items.
This means that if you’re using PayPal buttons, your visitors will only be able to
If they want to order multiple items, they’ll have to click on the appropriate Buy Now buttons separately every time.
Note that this is not the same as PayPal shopping carts, which will allow your visitors to put multiple items in their virtual carts and pay only once in bulk. If you’re interested in how to set up a PayPal shopping cart, this article will help.
Also, if your needs are even more complex (i.e.: you want to offer multiple items for sale, you want to be able to process credit cards and accept other forms of payment), you may need to upgrade to a full-blown shopping cart system.
If that’s your case, you can read my review of the best shopping cart software here.
Step 1 - Log into PayPal
Step 2 – Click on Merchant Service on the top menu
Step 3 – Click Website Payments Standard from the left-hand menu
So far, this is the screen you’ll see:
Step 4 – Depending on whether you want to sell single items or want to add the functionality to order multiple items at once, choose either Sell single items or Sell multiple items with PayPal’s free shopping cart (click create one now)
Step 5 – Customize the forms to your liking, filling out as many details as you want to. If you don’t want to deal with fulfilling every single order you receive manually, enter the URL of the page where people can download what they purchased into the “Take customers to this URL when they finish checkout” field.
Step 6 – Click Create Button to get the HTML code of your Buy Now button.
That’s it, you’re done. Now all you have to do is insert this code on your own page where you want this button to appear.
Actually, that’s all there is to it. Now you can use these few lines of code and add PayPal buy now buttons wherever you want to offer the option for your visitors to buy something from you.
If you’d like to have easy access to this HTML snippet, I recommend you save it into a text file for easy reference later. This way you can access it much more conveniently than if you had to go through the same process as above whenever you want to add a new Buy Now button to your site.
